Nita Guadalupe « Result #6 on Sept 24, 2006, 5:19pm »
Name: Nita Guadalupe
Age: 18
Sex: Female
Position on ship applying for: lookout
Appearance: Lupe is a native woman of lean and athletic build. She is tall for a girl and has waist length coal black hair that she keeps tied up in a thick braid. Her skin is not as dark as it should be, hinting at possible European blood somewhere in her family history. She has dark doe eyes that are her most noticeable feature as they are always they watching, taking in every detail of her surroundings.
Personality: She is very quiet and mysterious, partly because she only speaks enough English to do her job and have small conversations with the crew. Extremely independent, Lupe usually gets her work done with out needing to be asked. She gets frustrated very easily, especially when she can’t communicate with those around her. Her clothes contain several concealed knives of varying sizes. She is very skilled with her arsenal but would prefer only to use them as a last resort.
Strengths: Her independence and attention to detail, being able to speak two languages fluently (her native tongue and Spanish)
Weaknesses: Her lack of English vocabulary
Character History: Growing up in a small village in the northern part of New Spain, Lupe (then known by her native name, Nita) never knew her father. She often heard rumors from the village women that he had been a European trader—a story that her mother always denied. Tired of not knowing the truth, a young Nita left her village in the middle of the night, determined to find out her true heritage. She traveled for several days until she was captured by Spanish traders and sold as a slave in Mexico. At her new home in the Hacienda Almagro, she was forced to take the Spanish name Guadalupe. After that, each day of her childhood seemed to blend in with the next. She woke every morning to work in the fields and sleep at night just to start over again the next day. Everything changed when she was sent into her master’s home to work as a maid. This is when the attractive girl caught the eye of the eldest son of her master, Fernando Almagro. Fernando thought that just because Lupe was a slave, he could do whatever he wanted to her. Finally, after several months of torture, she stole a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her master’s son when he came to her that night. Realizing what she had done, Lupe panicked and fled the Hacienda. With money she had stolen from Fernando’s corpse, she bought herself passage on ship heading towards Tortuga where, needing work, she signed on the Lady Wanderer. Sample RP: Lupe’s strong hand gripped the rope as she pulled herself on to the rigging. Lookout was the only position open to her as the only English she needed to know was “ship” and “land”. She didn’t mind the work, though, in fact she enjoyed climbing up to the crow’s nest and the way the wind whipped through her coal black hair. Working her way up higher and higher she thought about the events that landed her here. Had Fernando deserved what she had done to him? She had begged and pleaded for him to leave her alone but did that justify her killing him? Lupe shuddered at the memory and tried to turn her attention back to the rigging, the last few feet to the top being the most difficult. Finally, she heaved herself onto the small platform at the top of the mast, her attentive eyes searching for sails or signs of land on the horizon. She was fortunate to meet up with the Lady Wanderer in Tortuga and was thankful that Captain D’Avon offered her work. Lupe was determined to show her gratefulness by doing the best possible.
